Coffee shop employees create list of "favorite" and "not-so-favorite" regulars: 'I would have LOVED a board like this'

How do you feel about being known as a "regular" at your local coffee shop: do you enjoy that, or would you prefer your food trips to be more anonymous?

There was a bit of discussion around the topic online lately. This person mentioned that they went to buy soup at the same corner store all the time, and the guy who worked there suddenly said, "You sure like soup." That stopped them right in their tracks, and they didn't go back for 3 full months afterwards!

There were definitely 2 sides to the debate that began. Some people were like, "Hey, that means that the corner store cashier likes you and appreciates your business!" And yes, that's probably true. Regulars tend to be good tippers, they're often pretty patient because they know how long their order will take, and if they get the same thing every time they come into the store, the person behind the counter can just start making that when they walk in.

But to be a regular from the customer's POV is a little different. I get a bit uncomfortable being known as a regular, too, but it's because I'm embarrassed that I eat the same foods all the time. It has nothing to do with the workers themselves, who I always enjoy talking with and getting to know. But there's something kind of nice about buying a greasy slice of pizza from someone who doesn't know you… versus the dude who knows you bought pizza 3 times already this week. Is he judging me and my bad habits? I don't know! Sometimes it's a good feeling to be known, other times you just want to be left to your own devices. Even when it's not embarrassing to be eating that food item, like the kind baristas who make me an iced coffee to go every day I'm in the office, I get self concious about the way I'm choosing to spend my hard earned money. What if the baristas are judging me for that? What if they know that I'll never own a home because I spend too much money eating avocado toast from their establishment?

… Although I'm curious if the sign was in a public area or not. It could be just for laughs (and to keep customers in line, perhaps? No one wants to be on the coffee shops' literal s-it list). I think the workers could be far more honest about their list if it was hung in the break room or somewhere else private.
